  1. This is much better than all those other threads showing boring electronically gizmofied images of things that need 50 hours of integrated red, blue, yellow, and infra red data etc that take 5 hrs to process through even the fastest PC known after stacking the best of 50,000 images! ;)

Oh dear. Well someone has to go next so from the sublime @mikeDnight 🙂 to the ridiculous but it is my first ever crack at lunar and my shoulder's are broad/skin thick so here we go i'll lower the bar a bit:

Done at the eyepiece just now - Swarovski ATX95 spotting scope at 70x. The moon was rising through quite hazy thin cloud but it was clear enough to have growing moments of clarity as it climbed slightly higher.

  3. Yes, looks like an issue with a bearing. Just took some photos of my 8SE goto mount and you can clearly see the bearing if you take the other covers off the other side.

If you take the gears off and the collar with the grub screws, you should be able to see if the bearing has totally gone. With the amount of movement I suspect it has broken.

I just remembered, I should mention our new parallelogram binocular mount (shown on the right of photo 1).

Designed entirely in-house, with help from some beta-testers.

Not on our website yet, but it will be soon. I'll start a separate discussion when it is added.

    Be interested when launched! :)

  5. My most used EP is the Baader zoom mk4, which allows it to go from been 24mm all the way down to 8mm, so not many times that I swap around other EP’s when viewing multiple different targets. Depending on which scope I use too this works pretty well in all of my scopes. Only times I use any different EP’s are if I am doing high magnification lunar or planetary viewing.

  6. Sad news. Met John a year or so ago after buying something off him and picked it up from his house on the way back home from my work I was doing down in the London area. He was a very nice and pleasant man, and his contributions on here will be very much missed indeed!

Condolences to his family and friends.

With no equipment it works fine. I actually tried it with equipment again this morning and it seems to be working just fine too. Maybe I didn't get the balance right, even though I checked.

Another question, a few days ago I more or less heard the motor do the same thing when I was not using the controller, but very quietly. Is that bad?

That could be a balance issue. Double check that it is balanced well in azimuth and altitude. Make sure any EP weight changes don’t cause any misbalance if they are significantly heavier in weigh between the two when changing any.

  8. Does it run like this even with no scope or equipment attached? If so then I would definitely contact the supplier you bought it off if under warrenty and get it replaced if so. Make that no extra power is been syphoned off by other equipment on your power strip as suggested also to make sure that the issue lies not with power but either faulty motor, or maybe gears set too tightly during build in the factory.

  9. Mostly look at the moon during phases, but not too much when near full, although with a filter on you can still see some surface features too then on the disk. AsI live in a bortal 7 suburban skies I don’t bemoan the moon too much as it has to be good seeing even on the darker nights to see any fainter dso’s, and I hate dragging my 10” Newtonian light bucket out so generally don’t miss the fainter stuff too much! ;)

  10. Some new reading material for the new year. One on the Mercury missions from Nasa, and the other on the mythology of the night sky. Bought the last one at the end of November, but due to delays it has just arrived this morning by RM, along with the other book delivery from the ‘A’ place too.
