  1. Skyportal is a very slimmed down version of Skysafari which is made by the same people for Celestron. I have Skyportal but never use it. I do however use Skysafari Pro both for  a guide when out at my scopes, or when I am connecting up via goto too with Skysafari Pro. Stellarium is very good too, but I tend to rarely use it and favour Skysafari which I have on both my iphone and ipad. It does come up on offer quite regularly so keep any eye out for it and you could nab it cheaper.

Don't forget to show us when you make it.

Sadly when the display arrived yesterday the seller from ebay has sent the version without the keys on, so waiting for a response back from them if they have they version they advertised with the keys. If not I’ll ask for a refund and source another one from elsewhere. I just ordered the Protostax case to from the US, so await that to arrive as well. Managed to get tracker to close down with pressing one of the keys on the black and white e ink display I have at least, so slowly moving forward.

Thanks. I am still amazed that you can pull cloud details visually. Did you use some filters? I have visually seen Venus clouds only once.

No, no filter used. First time I’ve seen any detail too on Venus. I think the binoviwers helped with teasing out these details. Was viewing the sun in WL for sunspots earlier in the day the image in the binos with them also was very good. The sofware of the brain does a very good job of taking two images from each eye and merging them into a much clearer picture. Need to use my binoviewers much more, and wait eagerly now for some lunar work with them.

  4. Excellent images. Well done! 👍🏻 I was out looking at Venus visually with my 80ED ‘frac and my little used binoviwers yesterday evening too. Used 15mm EP’s in the binos, then pushed magnification up with a 2xBarlow. The image held up very well, and visually I could see some darker cloud shading on Venus which corresponded pretty well to you photographic image of the clouds.

Nothing arrived today yet Royal Mail tracking says my package arrived today at 12.15p.m,  why do we have to continue with such a bad service from this organisation.

Although my package is not large or very expensive the item is still nearly £14 , all I can do is complain to the sender as Royal Mail themselves are totally useless.  One reason why I never use them at all.

I had this a couple of times from RM for certain small items. They tended to turn up with the postie (either on foot or by van) Ok the day after usually.

  6. I have a small paperback 2nd edition of this which I bought second hand a few years back. Interesting lay out of the book for the maps which do make it quirky for sure, but to be honest can’t say I’ve actually used it much. Wasn’t aware it was still in print, nor available as a hardback book either. Larger pages in the hardback book look as though they show the maps better, and with some colour too. Astro pictures of the objects are nice, but wonder as this is aimed at viewing with binoculars or small telescopes etc whether these might cause disappointment when viewed visually.
