  1. Thank you Adam J for your feedback I'll probably keep my ST 102 canon 450 for widefield and use the new scope 485 as my main rig. I am tempted by the GT 71 but the essential flattener really bumps up the price of these scopes but then again this hobby is not without its cost. I will have a bit of a ponder about this Again appreciate your feedback
  2. I am looking to buy a new telescope to compliment my new ZWO 485mc camera It's to replace my ST 102. I want a wider fov to capture more nebulae if possible . I think a WO Zenith star 72 III may fit the bill ? Any thoughts please . My budget is up to £600 . My mount is a HEQ5 pro rbm Thanks
  3. Taken last night with new parts added Still getting the hang of this camera My guiding was the best I've ever had Looks like a new telescope is on the horizon 12x 180s gain 81 offset 50 11 to 12C temp. Darks taken at the same temperature this time Any cc welcome
  4. Taken last night with new parts added Still getting the hang of this camera My guiding was the best I've ever had Looks like a new telescope is on the horizon 12x 180s gain 81 offset 50 11 to 12C temp. Darks taken at the same temperature this time Any cc welcome
  5. First night with new camera , an addition to my EOS 450DM . I had to use an old erect image diagonal and focusing was hurried so it's a half hearted attempt but I can report that this camera does have amp glow . I used dark frames to remove it . The diffraction patterns make focusing on one star eg capella impossible and I didn't check if it would actually fit in the frame doh so a comedy of errors . It's a new camera that's my excuse 38x 120s gain 80 bin 1 offset 50 13C 28 Dark frames taken at 21C
  6. I will try to do new flats tomorrow Thank you for your advice Clear skies
  7. The mount is a HEQ5 pro belt modded from FLO my most expensive purchase being disillusioned with the time actually using my kit Vs expense I sold a lot of items and decided to concentrate on the basics and limit my expense though I've got the enthusiasm back so I may take the plunge ie new camera and scope in the future . I've got dithering working well with guiding so I don't need darks...or do I ?? As you say I need more subs but I've been reall pleased with my earlier attempts Clear skies
  8. Cheers Lee To aid focusing I bought a 3d printed bahintov mask from eBay with fits inside the dewshield . I've also got platesolving to work in Apt which is making finding targets and framing them brilliantly.
  9. Thanks for taking the time to offer advice. In hindsight I was more surprised I actually got an image . Looking at other astronomers images the standard seems to have increased enormously and I will start the process of upgrading my scope and camera. If only the weather was kinder to us Clear skies
  10. It's iso 800 I could show you some really stretched images but I tried to be conservative with this one lol
  11. Taken with my modded canon 450d with my ST 102 only 11x 120s ,darks and flats applied cls-ccd filter guided or it was until the clouds rolled in. It was also near the zenith and went behind by house.. Im trying do do my best with inexpensive equipment before upgrading . any cc welcome
  12. Beautiful image. I was doing the same on Saturday night but rather puts mine to Shame Clear skies
  13. Taken Saturday night but fighting with clouds as usual . Canon 450d modded cls-ccd filter . 41x120s ,darks and flats added this time. Apt ,DSS and gimp. It lacks fine details and is overprocessed . I spend hours doing this ...
  14. Beautiful image...my next target weather permitting Did you use a l-eNhance filter by any chance just I am considering one for my 450D Clear skies
  15. I've looked at them but am loath to spend any more money at the moment. The clip in cls-ccd filter has reduced chromatic aberration significanty though and justified it's addition. Still Santa is just around the corner and if I concentrate on nebulae then it's more than likely I'll get one. Good luck with your imaging and clear skies
  16. Thank you Peter Your right lazy astronomer the amount of detail in your image reflects your dedication and skill both of which I lack. I use to own a mono camera a ZWO 183MM pro and filters bur sold these and went back to using my 450d and try to maximise it's potential when the weather allows. Clear skies
  17. Come on then show me yours ! Interested in a comparison this is the first image with my modded 450 and the increase in colour and detail is amazing
  18. Hello Taken last night before the clouds rolled in as usual Canon 450d modded 24x 120s iso 800 cls-ccd filter Startravel 102 scope on heq5 pro polar aligned no flattener or reducer guided and dithered Apt and processed in gimp Im really pleased after my first poor attempt but here goes ...
  19. Cheers Dazzyt. I tried NGC 7635 and M52 But was disappointed. I am buying a RC 6 in the near future to concentrate on smaller DSOs Clear skies
  20. Hello After a hiatus of a year or two I've got the excitement back This was taken with my Canon EOS 450d modded , ST102, polar aligned but unguided as yet on a heq5 pro the limitations of the Startravel I and 450d I well know but I am pleased with this. 30x120s Flats no darks The stars are egg shaped as I expected but this was a get it done image. Any comments appreciated
  21. Hi Lee I am chuffed to see you enjoying the scope as it was intended. With the ZWO 183MM PRO i got some wow moments of images of the horsehead nebula and the needle galaxy..my member profile photo . Clear skies Mike
  22. yep i know him from APT but its nice to see an image from a local astronomer as i imagine your skies are like mine usually awfull interspersed with a cold clear night once a month. Lets hope 2020 is better ! APT has caused me a few headaches lately with "busy" messages and non detection of the 183 but from starting with a 450D the jump to a dedicated camera is amazing All the best Mike
  23. Nice images and thank you for posting them I have the 183mm Pro and am looking to replace this with a 533pro as the terrible weather means i only shoot Luminance to maximise my imaging time Did you use any of these new duo band filters ? if the weather improves i may try these targets to get a comparison but looking at these i am more convinced that a 533 is right for me . It will be on my SW ED72pro
  24. These are my last images of 2019 taken with my ED72 and 183mm pro to be replaced by a 533pro These targets are not easy due to location trees etc except M1 , there was a bright moon as well so are all lucky shots but at last i have taken them warts and all . My guiding was all off as well Anyway a merry Christmas to you all and a Happy new year
