  1. Love it! Well done today...I was also out doing battle with the roof, in the cold & sunshine
  2. End of the year is my goal. Dry and powered. We’ll see ?
  3. Thanks James, I feel the same motivation. I think Kev is going to win though ?
  4. So as not to let the side down, I’ve also been busy building today, if only in the afternoon. Gloriously sunny, if cold - Now the rolling roof has joists, and most of the wood that might see weather has now had a lick of paint Tomorrow, weather dependent, the rolling roof will be structurally complete, ready for the marine ply and waterproofing top coat. The light was gone before I remembered photos...again ?
  5. Although the weather was a bit hit and miss, and other jobs demanded attention, I managed to get both rolling rail up and joined together Other than that, it roof joists are cut and waiting - next weekend Lastly, I had a great conversation with one of our technical guys from work, about getting the roof coated. Seems straightforward, so waterproof roof ‘coming soon’ ? There would have been photos, but it was dark when I remembered
  6. Are twins driving us all outside?! I’ve identical twin boys. Just started school ?
  7. I've not worked with EPDM, but would warm water help drop the folds and creases out, then the heater should let the glue cure?
  8. Yes...I think adding hinges, locks, walls, flooring and a roof would just be overkill ? let’s just call it done! The missus will be happy
  9. It rolls! Well, half of it! First fit of the rail, installed the wheels and tested - buttery smooth roll, with a few mm clearance. Nice Also, cut the door to fit, before treating and painting. Not bad for a couple of hours
  10. Oh yes Kev, SketchUp is making this build possible ?From the finer details of the pier, to the foundations and up, its been great. Not a lot of wasted materials this way too. I try to keep it updated of any on-the-job changes, so it’ll serve as a reference in future - or help someone else
  11. We should be getting a special rate from FH Brundle! It's not easy to see from the materials as they are, but the notched beams will sit as the sides for the rolling roof, notches to the inside. The wheels will be sat in the notches, raising the beam just enough so the outside of the beam doesn't foul the rail - the test fit worked, although a shim might be needed depending on how straight and level everything is The spars, joists and eventually the 'flat' roof will then hang between these two - or that's the plan ?
  12. It was pretty clear yesterday, which is a blessing and a curse, when doing a roof I kept looking up only to have the sun right in my eyes ? Are astronomers ever happy with the weather?! The wheels and associated track are v grooved from FHBrundle. 80mm diameter. Rated to 250kg. Very smooth action, simple but well engineered. Hopefully I can do it justice edit: These wheels
  13. Rolling roof sides done & notched for the wheels. 50 x 200 laminated to 50 x 175, 3m long. Storing then on the roof for now ? Wheels are 650 in from each end. A rough trial and it seems to be able to roll, might need a washer or 2 for clearance. Some pics:
  14. Funny how that happened, Kev - I've been following your build with interest, and cribbing your fixes and tips! I've been doing bits, but it kind of looks the same, so haven't updated ? I should be able to start on the rolling roof build tomorrow, assuming the forecast is even half right, and the ply is cut ready for the warm side roof to go on. Door frame is in, and I'm cutting up the cladding lengths. Would have had a door too, but it arrived with a massive split in it, so waiting on the replacement I'm building all the bits I can, then assembling it like an Ikea bookcase
  15. Looking very smart! Something to be really proud of. I’ve gone with a quite dark gray, after some ‘discussions‘ ? Screening plants and there shouldn’t be too much of an issue
  16. All the stud is done, and the main roof rail supports are ready to fit to frame the warm roof. Looking building shaped finally ?
  17. I cheated and bought an external door frame, including hardwood sill ? The build looks really well suited in your garden too
  18. Oooh, you’re still winning ? Another frame up today, with plans to complete the back wall tomorrow. Underestimated for stud, so working where I’ve materials Starting to gather a quantities list for the roof, to get it all ordered up. Will be nice to have the rails and wheels on site finally
  19. Sunshine = progress ? One panel clad, painted and installed, the other half is ready to clad and go yay
  20. Yours too Kev! I'm chasing windows in the weather now - of course, I'm sat here at work and it's clear & dry ?
  21. It is very close, yes. Roller and a pole ?
  22. Given a few gaps in the weather, construction has continued. One end wall and the back are now framed, and put to one side. The back wall is awaiting cladding before install. The rest of the frame timber has been cut to length ready to blitz it! Also, finally poured the concrete for the pier, so the obs side flooring joists can go in! It's starting to come together Excuse the random rope, but the met office issued a warning for wind, and I've a gazebo covering it over ?️☂️? - It survived ? I've a 3m length of 150mm ID twinwall pipe spare now, if anyone needs (It comes in 6m, which was a tad long for the pier) It's this stuff : Naylor MetroDrain -71302
  23. Pier mkii is underway - sketchup to the rescue! This will be a concrete filled 175mm ridged and rigid pipe, topped with a pair of 6mm octagonal stainless plates (already a nice shape, thanks ebay!) separated by 50mm stainless spacers and bolted together with 12mm stainless bar. The puck is a beautiful bit of machining from Altair, which fits perfectly. All secured to the pipe by 3 250mm long 12mm stainless L bolts Not owning a drill press, I've enlisted our engineering department for the precision drilling - they even offered give it a nice finish with some sort of acid wash ? Much happier with this design (much cheaper too), and it means I can get on...if only I didn't have to work away this weekend!
  24. Thank Kev, it's been a little testing. The ill-fitting adapter and it's associated pier have been returned - about 6 weeks of to and fro is enough. Time to put on my old engineering hat and make something! ?
