  3. At last in 12+ months I have fixed my shadows / reflection problems with my PowerNewt. See here for the problems http://stargazerslou...et-rid-of-them/ and http://stargazerslou...-time-ngc-6888/ I ended up completely removing the TS OAG, which wasn't being used and only in place for spacing and also adding in an Astronomik CLS UV block filter. Which of these two modifications did the trick, I don't know, but the end result is clean LRGB subs at long last. I managed to get out again this weekend and redo my LRGB subs of NGC 6888 the Crescent Nebula and I am back on track again now Here is an LRGB build of NGC 6888 taking in about 10x3min subs for each LRGB from my garden in Sandbach next to the M6 motorway. Scope : TS PowerNewt 200mm running at F2.8 with ASA reducer CCD : QHY9 mono + 2inch LRGB filters + CLS UV Filter Mount : NEQ6Pro Guide : ED80 + QHY5 Total time : 2 hours and 90% crop Hope you like, still need to get back into the swing of processing now I have real data, so I am sure it could be improved. I still have a few coma and comet stars nearer the top left, but hopefully I can nail the collimation a bit more with the Cats Eye. Cat
  4. SUCCESS It is all working now Added the Astronomik CLS filter in line and removed the TS OAG and now and uniform subs. I don't know which one caused it and to be honest, I don't really care now

  6. Well nice crisp stars and a very good effort. Nicely frame too, I do like this framing to give the full cluster is magesty. Agree on the gradients / flats, it looks like vignetting to me (Check the thumbnail image, easier to see), but hey, cracking image. Onwards and upwards now.

About 90% crop and yes I am having difficulty with my setup with reflections etc etc. Collimation is almost there, but top left has comet stars still, a long outstanding issue I have had with this scope. There is a thread in image discussion about the issues I am having. My CLS UV filter has arrived and I have the redundant OAG out of the train now, so hopefully tonight with some clear skies I can test out the new image train and get these problems sorted. Fingers crossed. Thanks all for the welcome back, it is nice to be back and active on the forum after sometime away. Definately want to use this kit instead of it sitting in the observatory rotting away User this summer to spruce it all up ready for the long dark nights
  8. Ouch expensive. Their small OSC scope for no moon is almost $1 per minute. Ouch

  10. Are you sure you were actually pointing at the target. They are often very easy to miss if your alignment is slightly off. The amount of hours I have wasted trying line my CCD up with finder scope etc etc etc hunting for stars with continous exposure tapping the NESW keys
  11. Not sure technically and someone will be along soon to give you the technical answer. But my laymans answer is that wavelets reduce the exposure of hot spots of the signal and eek out the contrasts underneath to reveal structure and local contrasts that over exposure has caused in an image. Well that is how it seems to behave to me when I use it. TBH I am not a great fan of Wavelets in DSO. But for planetary, brilliant.

  14. Also just ordered a T2 Astronomik CLS IR Blocked filter for the image train. Got fed up of massive gradients on my LRGB subs and have been meaning to get one for ages, but the backfocus of the ASA corrector and QHY9 combo with TS OAG made it impossible. Now I have switched back to Side by Side guiding, well, it was rude not to. Might have a TS OAG for sale if anyone still uses them.
  15. Thanks, it has really put me off recently having this problem when time is precious to me for imaging and work. I am commuting 150 miles a day on a new contract and with this problem, I just couldn't be bothered to mess with the scopes for nearly 6 months until I gave myself a slap about having £1000's of kit sat in an observatory wasting away. This weekend, I eventually replace my roll off roof so it stopped collecting water and sagging, so the scopes are next as I promised myself over the winter watching the lovely clear skies feeling work drunk.
  16. Done a strip down of my image train and removed the TS OAG from it. Now precisely at 62mm from the corrector to the CCD chip. Once I get another clear night, will give this a go and see if the reflections happen again. I hope it is as simple as this and the TS OAG was causing the problem.

  18. Doing some more thinking and after reading the posts in the discussion thread started by Olly, I am pretty sure it is reflections If I DBE an image in PixInsight, the pattern appears whether it is calibrated with flats or not.
  19. mmm, intersting read. I have a F2.8 corrected 200mm Newt and am experiencing some of these problems.
  20. Been having a few conversations via PM and many thanks all especially Olly. Some updates. I agree that it does look like reflections from somewhere, especially since it is always in the same place and same shape. I have always used a TS OAG and remember having these issue there too. Since then I have gone back to side by side with an ED 80 guide scope, BUT I still have the OAG attached for spacing. Next step is to remove this completely from the image train as it definately is a constant in the whole problem for the time I have had it. Good call on the ASA reducer, I could try some subs without it in place and see if this is what is causing the problems. The problem seems to exist whether I apply flats or not. They don't appear on the flats that I have experimented with. I have tried sky flats (series of them averaged) and single panel flats. This is the bit that really concerns me. If it was light leakage, the I would have thought that it would appear on the flats. However the flats are only 2 seconds compared to a light leakage of a 5 minute sub. The experimentation continues.   22. Added in another layer of Ha processed red to give it a better more well known look
  23. Good to be back mate, the red is completely lacking in this as having massive issues and had to drown it out with Ha as luminance. Got to crack these shadows. Really hurting me as I can't get LRGB together.
  24. Hello everyone Been sometime since starting a new contract up in Blackpool that I have gotten the scopes out. Firing up the NEQ6 and the last date was January this year and even that was just to test the mount out. Well over 6 months since I imaged. I managed to grab about 3 hours last night of an old favorite, NGC 6888. 3 hours on the SuperNewt 200mm F2.8 and guided on a dual arm with a QHY5 ED80 Main CCD was a QHY9 (eventually fixed and back with me) and 2inch LRGB filters I am having massive problems with shadows in my LRGB images (see a thread in imaging discussion if you can help out) So here is a dodged job of HaRGB using what I could without the shadows showing too much to get an image out. Hope you like it, was nice to be back in the saddle again.
  25. Thanks for the welcome back Olly, it has been sometime due to a new contract etc. This scares me somewhat. The scope is carbon and so the inside is the standard black from the carbon. I have however edged the primary and secondary mirrors in black permanent markers. Is this what you may be referring to ? I am not sure, but I think I had the problem before I did this. Can't be sure though. Would this explain why it only happens on LRGB and not NarrowBand images. Also it happens no matter what exposure I use for LRGB 1 - 5 mins. It doesn't show on flats either.
