A quick 'Google' should give you lots. Try Wikipedia first

  11. BBC says clear until midnight and then cloudy. Clear Outside says cloudy until midnight then clear. Combine the two .....a clear night!

You're right! But at the moment the pessimistic combination looks more likely

A scope is for life not just for Christmas! But it is nice to change although I'm a bit more stick in the mud - I've had my trusty refractor for about 9 years now! I tend to add to rather than swap. Looking forward to your first reports

So that's why you won't have the Flextube for long! I had to look these scopes up as not familiar with them - look fabulous.

  15. What a solar transit that could have been! Out imaging the Sun when I hear a big noise up in the sky. I could see five jets in formation, heading vaguely towards the Sun. Hit the record button just in case... All nine jets as it turned out missed the Sun, what a shame! I guess that was the Red Arrows then!

Yes Luke - heading for Sywell near to me but I missed them! I really wanted to see the two Lancasters but they were grounded due to the wind.

  16. Broken my right wrist - a fractured scaphoid, no less. Got a cast from knuckle to elbow, and moving the Dob outside is suddenly a big deal. Dammit.

I sympathise. I broke my right wrist a few years back so I know what it's like. I think you may have to give the Dob a miss at least for a while

I thought you must have meant last night . The one I saw was probably the brightest I've seen and with a wide trail. As you say, worth a late night!

Thanks for all the good wishes - you are such a nice friendly bunch. I had a good day reading all about the Herschels, listening to music and dreaming of dark, clear skies.
