  1. Take a look at some of the extensive number of photos that have been posted on here, that should help answer your question, in living color.
  2. I will say one thing, Lunt sure doesn't identify a 2 speed for the 50 in too great detail, the 60 and greater yes because they are now duel use scopes ie nite or daytime viewing.
  3. Notice the ad mentions the adapter that it says is requied, so really how much do you gain for all that extra cost, if it fits !
  4. I am not so sure they even make a 2 speed for the Lunt 40/50 scopes ?
  5. Here is what I have been waiting almost a year for ! The Lunt LS50Ha will be happy, lol !
  6. With tax and ship it came to almost $500 C !
  7. Sorry but I couldn't find one appropriate forum to put this in so here it is here. Talking to my dealer here in Canada he told me that Feather Touch are starting to ship / supply their 1.25" single speed focusers for the Lunt LS50 ha scopes once again. I have been waiting for mine for almost a year, I will get it next week. I can hardly wait, the stock helical focuser has been resricting the use of my LS50 since I received it last Aug. PS: If there is a better place to insert this post could the powers that be please do it, as long as it can be seen by those that are waiting.
  8. When the internal battery gets down to 20-21% you get a warning that the battery is low, when it gets to 15-18% you get a message that the battery does not have enough power to operate the SS and it quits working / enhancing but it does not shut down, you decide to either charge it up at that point or shut it down completely or ......... ! The other nite in -17° C temps mine did that at 18%.
  9. I use my ipad 8th gen but I also really like my Samsung Tab A8 tablet with my SS, it works perfectly especially in Landscape mode ! I would recommend the Tab A8 anytime for the price.
  10. Maybe I have already mentioned this, every time I take one of my SS out I do a calibration, then level it and then a 3 point goto and it never, ever fails me ! The amount of time to do it is peanuts. The sun, never had a problem, ever !
  11. Normally about 12 m but with a signal booster maybe 100 m from what they say on another site ! I usually use about 10-12 m never a problem, I have a booster but have never had to use it
  12. Where have you read the mixed reviews, I don't recall seeing / reading any, of any great length ! There will always be some abstract comments but ......
  13. The SS is usually a compliment to, an extension of scope astronomy of which most already have, usually several of or for some it is the introduction to EAA a fairly new branch of astronomy ! To really appreciate it you have to or should be a lover of other aspects of this great hobby of which many have been in for decades. Its all part of the astronomy ride, you have to make the decision, there is always the resale value if you find its not for you and that has never changed ! PS : If you haven't maybe you should do some further reading / research !
  14. GG Like most, you sure won't regret it ! Good Luck and have fun !
  15. Its just common sense as with anything subjected to a bit of moisture, that will dry out pretty fast, they are made tough by ZWO for that reason ! Moisture has been around before we were all born, lol ! PS: The heater is built in to prevent fogging of the lenses not to prevent moisture from getting on the unit, the other nite my SS was entirely covered in white frost, no problems at all.
  16. The Leo Triplet @ -17° C a couple nites ago ! Bortle 6, 22 min. And no stacking !
  17. The Beehive @ 6 min last nite -17° C, Bortle 6, 10:30 pm ! Wanted to try out my new star spike maker. And no stacking !
  18. I used my SS last nite for 4 hrs. in -17° C , Bortle 6 conditions, the battery went from 100% to 18% where it stopped working and there was no way I didn't have to use the dew heater ! Depending on the nightly weather the requirements can be different every nite out in the temperate zones of the world ! The heater is a needed asset but uses a lot more juice !
  19. An 8 min. take with my SS only this time I used my Samsung Tab A8. Bortle 5, a bit above avg. backyard skize. I really like that A8 !
  20. Another quick tryout with my 2nd S50, basic enhancing in Lr ! M81 - 15 min., next time I would do 20 min.
  21. Most don't anyway from what I am seeing, its the core of the take that is important not the outside perimeter !
  22. For the first time in a couple months the skize cleared and the temp dropped to -8° C so out went my 2nd S50 for its maiden run, under Bortle 5 backyard skies. One of its targets was M3 in the SE @ about 40° altitude with a dim led streetlite shining behind it at about 15° elev. The SS performed without a mishap, as does the first ! M3 @ 5 min.
  23. Great shot ! In all m years with some pretty competent visual scopes and I couldn't get this, not even close !
