  1. Mizar and Alcor and its smaller binary star ! Skies were not very good, I shut down pretty early. I was lucky to get what I did. For those that wonder they are located in the bend in the handle of the Big Dipper ! Another one to add to my stars album !
  2. M40, from the other night ! I love it, really !
  3. I got rid of all my dobs years ago, now its refractors (10) only, lol ! From 60mm to 130mm, since the SS I am cutting back on them as well, plus my age (76), lol !
  4. I bought a 4 & 8 star spike masks but I don't like the 8. I think the spikes lend a little character to the stars !
  5. M106 in 25 min. several nites ago ! Even though I have some pretty competent refractors this SS is getting to be pretty enjoyable, I will say ! Its a fast set up and a fast take down, when skize vary so fast in an evening !
  6. Procyon ! My stars album keeps growing, skizes were terrible last nite so I will take this one again !
  7. Remember the poster said 'many' not 'you' in particular from what I see, so if you don't have a guilty concience why would you speak for others ! I think the poster is correct in some cases. Your between the quotes might be a little out of context, there are many that call themselves astronomers but in fact make very little effort to be, lol !
  8. I had the D2 as well but I immediately sold it when I got my first SS ! I could never get it to perform right, I always had a problem getting it to perform, the other high end gear after researching them throughly determined that I wouldn't pay that sort of $'s but as far as an actual usage comparison I can't help but I have read some, use google if need be !
  9. North Bay, Ontario, Canada today, 92% covered ! I was lucky the SS shot right through the thinner cloud cover !
  10. Make sure its the SS and not the D2 unless you want to use your engineering skills, lol !
  11. Google around there have been several on these forums incl CN / YouTube, I think SS won out based on cost vs capabilities and ease of use !
  12. Arcturus last nite, Bortle 5-6 ! At some point I will have an album of just stars.
  13. We are all adults, talking adult talk, we aren't here to coddle you or anyone, incl myself ! For those that can't handle it there is always CN and watch those fireworks for a while ! Have a look at some of your own posts before pointing any fingers !
  14. Thats a great opinion when you don't really know ...... !
  15. There was / is that challenge, in the search, in the find but today its all in the on switch and back to texting or the tv or ........ ! But how many today know any different and if we that do say anything ie Ed T its game over, sad really but not surprising ! PS: Last nite about 4-5am I took, with my SeeStar, M4 and beside it the red star Antares, both in Scorpius, they were very low in the S but I knew where to look after learning in the old school not by throwing a dart !
  16. Don't say that too loud or it might spoil your Easter, lol !
  17. It sure is the lazy mans way of doing astronomy without knowing anything about anything and with reems and reams of answers to go with it as to why, even if they don't really know what they are looking at, lol ! I agree ! PS: And like everything else they don't care, just put their hand out for whatever takes the fancy, lol !
  18. Where will this discussion end, it just deviates in any every direction around and around in circles, lol ! Ed laid out exactly what he wanted to and if you read it enough times and put some thought into various aspects you will see his meaning, many don't want to and don't care to ! Nothing changes yet I enjoy my SS's and as I have said I am sure Ed does as well !
  19. Ed's not in the business to touch on every little frill, he never has, he leaves that up to all the other myriad of experts that like to paint in what should be standard on any scope, filters being one of them, why would he want to point them out again ! As with any true, knowledgeable astronomer that should be understood, not some sort of surprising add on, filters are an intregal part of astronomy, we all know that incl beginers, by now hopefully ! As for Cuiv, he is an entertainer, he has his own website and he solicites contributions, Ed doesn't have to, ever, he tells us ........... !
  20. He is a true expert, he doesn't try to coddle anyone incl the beginers that like to be, lol ! Just to justify what they have yet to learn !
  21. If you think those guys on CN are any better, more gentler maybe I say go for it, lol !
  22. I guess thats the way life is you say it your way and I say it mine, I don't mince words after 76 yrs and I'm goin with my thoughts, every time ! Until some one proves me wrong I'm stickin with Ed !
  23. I watched Ed's vid one more time and there is no doubt in my mind that the complainers about it did not listen to what he was saying in his review ! There wasn't one derogatory remark about anyone owning the SS just an honest general analysis of what you had and its capabilities vs value, at this point in time and he also pointed out several times that at some point, but not now, these developers / manufacturers will get to a stage where conventional AP will become a back seat rider but not now ! Ed was / is right on the $'s and he did it in a nice, gentle and fun sort of way but todays crowd of no it all astronomers just don't like to be told, unfortunately ! PS: Even though I own 2 SS's and had a DII he is absolutely correct but like many I want to play with them now and Ed says he appreciates that, if you listen closely ! PPS: While I am waiting for better !
  24. The saddest part of it all is that it takes well meaning beginers or some long time dabblers who know nothing about astronomy and makes them think they are instant experts ! And fye to those long time players that disagree with them, lol ! True experts like Ed Ting for example !
