  2. I to had A Sumerian 14” ultra light with Zambuto Quartz optics the build was very good and it was very light weight it did struggle with two things large heavy eyepieces like Ethos and the mirror sling made collimating very hit and miss also the flex in the truss poles made the issue problematic the Quartz mirror did cool down slightly quicker than previous Pyrex I had but that’s really due to the thickness As Piero says about the coma and use of Paracorr I have one for my now F4 but found it not necessary on the Zambuto

That's some scope, congratulations ,and just in time for winter too.😎 I suppose the next step will be a shroud to keep the dust and dew off the mirrors. Even with the ultimate telescope your never done spending.

Hi thanks already comes with a shroud included a very good one at that

  4. This fantastic scope was delivered by Grant from FLO few weeks ago before I went away on my holidays

ive just got round to assembling it I must say it is a reasonable easy set up I managed on my own

it would have been slightly better with two but it’s manageable on my own as it’s going to be semi permanent ie under a Tele gizmos 365 cover

the build quality is quite good and probably one of the best stable Dobsonion scopes I’ve had it feels very secure and rigid

the motor drives surprised me by being fairly quite and smooth in both Axis my GPS skywatcher mouse works as well so that’s a bonus

collimating is very straightforward and made easy so now I wait for some clear nights to give this bad boy a run out

I’ve taken delivery of an Oklop "Padded bag’n’backpack for SC9.25 tubes". The good news is that it’s very well made of top quality fabric and the zips are excellent. It's easy and quick to get the OTA in and out of and it holds the OTA snugly, with padding all round the tube
The only problem is that the C.95 tube doesn’t fit in with the 9x50 finder in place. This is a standard Celestron finder supplied with the OTA. Probably a 6 x 30 finder would be OK, but that’s not what I have.
Nevertheless, for my purposes (carrying to public events on the back seat of the car) it’s fine because I can leave the finder in place in a way that it sticks out from the zipped compartment as shown in the pic. The OTA fits in with the 2-inch diagonal in place, which is a reduces assembly time.

    (I'm really sorry...)

I’m afraid that’s not possible as he’s had his Bobs Knobs removed and unable to collimate  ?

@bingevader  mm.. I'm not a great fan of ultra-light "naked" dobsons. Dobsons like Sumerian have portability in mind. Said this, from my standpoint sturdiness and ultra-portable do not go well together. To make it short, my main concern about ultra portable dobsons are collimation holding, thermal issues + dew formation with the primary mirror as this is (in my opinion) too exposed, particularly considering the UK climate.

@John  :) The OOVX 12L is a great scope. I particularly like that it is a bit slower than most 12" dobsons. It is a telescope that I have seriously considered in the past. You were lucky to find a very good one in the s/h market for an excellent price. For dobsons of 12" aperture or larger, I prefer a truss but a solid tube has advantages of course. I agree with you about the limitations that the UK weather can cause on a high quality mirror. There are other important factors though, like mount and focal length. I'm quite fussy about the movements of a telescope and much prefer observing standing up.

p.s. just expressing my point of view openly. I believe that a telescope is a personal thing and as such we can have different tastes and opinions!

Hi Piero I’ve never come across any of the concerns you mentioned above with my Sumarian colimation holds really well and takes only minutes as for the dew with the shroud fitted its the same as any if not slightly better airflow with the two fans below the primary it works so well movement on theese scopes is a dream and they are very stable

Actually Garry, I spoke to quite a few people and googled around, etc, etc, and agree with you. So instead of going down the new AA route have contacted the guy and it's being held for me until I return home on Thursday when I am going to buy it. Guy sent me tons of pictures, and I think the focuser included decided it for me. Spoke to the seller at length too. So am happy with my decision :)

Going to be an expensive weekend.. getting the Stellarview and an AZ4 mount for myself, and an ED100 for my nephew . Now, how to hide all that from the Missus :D

A wise decision I’ve met Richard he’s a genuine guy and that scope in my opinion is the best value all round I don’t bother hiding I just suffer the looks and do you really need another scope good luck with 102 I’m sure you will be pleased and happy you chose it the focuser is the best part of the deal they are the best over priced but the Televue of Focusers ??

It's still for sale @ £600. Personally, despite it having a Feathertouch focuser, I think it's too expensive for a 10yr old scope, when a new TS can be had for less.

I think the point here is the focuser is top quality around £450 so a total of £600 including the scope is still a fair price for the quality no mater how old I paid over three times that for a 25 year old scope so age is no guide to quality having owned several of AA scopes including a TS 130 APO with 3.5 inch  focuser there focuses are not on the same park as the feather touch and there’s a lot to be said of a quality focuser on a 4 inch at high mag just my pennies worth I know where I’d put my money

    How about something like this?

    https://www.teleskop-express.de/shop/product_info.php/language/en/info/p8401_Sumerian-Optics-Alkaid-12--f-5-Dobsonian-Telescope.html

@garryblueboy was selling similar with Zumbato mirrors. I can’t remember the exact details, but I do remember that it was a serious scope! It was a couple of weeks ago so it may have found a new home. Might need a bit more than £2k, but you are used to quality gear......

    Paul

It still is available I took the add down after the usual of topic remarks etc but may be over the budget of the op but there no lighter 14” inch set up I know it’s lighter than an 8 inch Dob lol

What Jonk is trying to say is you have the focuser (read upper tube assembly not aperture) facing the floor when viewing low objects?

There is not pictures of it assembled it just says attach the top section it is a bit of an optical illusion as it’s more on side than it looks
