just had a little wee whilst finishing or near to finishing, got goose bumps all over and near to hyperventilating uta before light baffle fitted finished before sips uta fitted, hooorrrraaaayyyyy my heart was proper in my mouth incase my maths was out couldn,t rest there, added 25kg to the wood disc to try the balance and motion motion is sweet, the weights i have added are closer to the uta than the mirror would be so balance will be further foward, uta has no secondary, tubes are pretty much spot on length wise, balance point its a bit easyer to lift the front than push down suggesting its a bit heaver at the rear which is great drop down in use, works ace

small update uta near finished, just need to bore the hole for the focuser and fit the spider

phoned 00 today, mirror should be done in 10 days, its in the final stages of figuring, that means i will have around 2 weeks to test before elan valley with the boys just need to find someone to make the shroud now

imagine that uta left now, which is part done anyway, just need to fit the spider and find someone to make a shroud

mirror cell is fitted . all bolts/screws are thread locked, mirror support pads have been flattened to allow equal support on the mirror

small update, drop down tail gate fitted and works a treat

as you said last night on the phone im going to miss this, but cant wait to look through it, and its getting darker now

some up dates, finished modifying the cell today and setting the edge support supports. c.o.g. on the mirror should be 26.58 got it to 27mm close, also made a retaining structure with clips to hold the mirror in transit. fitted all mirror box clamps and bolted bearings on properly. just need to thread lock the cell up,paint the whiffle tree edge supports and fit, then complete the uta, which wont take long ,then on to wires . some pics now first cell before after this is the air gap, the black thing on the wood is to make up the height, so that its the same thickness as the mirror 57mm, note the ptfe washers £19 for 4 c.o.g. there is a name for it, but tired now, sure steve or damien will be along soon. close to spec and how the garage looks now, nice when the stock pile starts to slim

i realy realy shouldnt be doing this, but i am so happy with the final outcome even though i dont have my mirror yet, and there is still a few things left to do, i had to share my progress so far. so here goes some more pics. side bearings fitted for trial ground board before blacking with centre shaft fitted and bush then blacked after 4 more addition coats of polyrethane varnish it was then de nibbed and machine polished machine polished mirror cover reflection test and encoder grub screw fitted from a far in the messy workshop lower truss clamps trial fitted and good reflection test hope you like. to get to this stage has took hours and hours, took near 2 days to polish, but all that is behind me now. a couple of little mods to do to the cell tomorrow and then fitt that, and then re asmble the uta and fitted poles,e.t.c. this should be the 4th pic down
