Interstellarum - field edition

This arrived for me yesterday as a very generous birthday present from my family. I know a few others have had this recently, and I have to agree that it is a truly stunning creation. The detail in it is beautiful; areas of sky that I thought were void of any interest have just come alive with exciting targets of all sorts. I know all of these are visible on my SkyMap Pro software that I still use occasionally, but this feels like a much more suitable companion for the fully manual dob experience. It's expensive, but I really think I'll be using this throughout my life.

Looking forward to some adventures together!

I bought the field edition and I don't think I have any use of the desk edition. I once brought my copy of the Cambridge Star Atlas outside, and after a while I had to do a 100 m Olympic sprint to save it from beeing destroyed due to the dew. I think the Interstellarum field edition will last many many years. I don't know how the plastic sheets will behave outside at temperatures below 0 degrees Celsius though..... I will soon know.

I've got the field edition too and I think it's brilliant. Along with a RACI and a red-dot finder it's really made the difference to my ability to find things easily.

PS- Kudos to Qulia for some good advice here a year or so ago on the practical necessities of star-hopping.
