Powering a CCD from a 12v battery?

Is this possible? I want to take my CCD out to a dark site but I only have the mains plug and transformer for power, I have a battery just for the CCD as it says in the destructions that it can't be powered from the same source as a laptop if using a battery....so....how do I power it? The camera is a Starlight express one if that has any bearing on it...I have 2 batteries one for the scope/lappy and one for the CCD. Thanks in advance :)

I went through this with a maplins worker, it would mean the battery powering the inverter to change voltage to 230/240 for the plug to go in and then the transformer takes it back down to 12v, I was told that was unsafe and a fire risk :)
