thats a nice first effort pat. next i would try taking more images, and stacking them in DSS. Here's a link to a popular thread that might inspire you further:

Nice shot, a excellent start.

What ISO did you use and also, did you use a T-ring and T-adapter or take the shot thorugh a lens.

Only asking as I have a 1000D camera as well and havn't managed a good shot of the nebula yet.
