There is a relatively new way of controlling remote PC's, a company I work with use it for support purposes so I guess it must work well and there is a free version for private use.

TeamViewer - Free Remote Access and Remote Desktop Sharing over the Internet

I have downloaded it but haven't got around to trying it yet.

The reason I would use it to sort out my wife's PC while I was at work!

The ability to do this is built into Windows (if that's what you're using). Go to Start then Click on Run and type mstsc and press return. You then either need the name of the pc you want to control or it's ip address.

This will work if the pc you're trying to remote is on your network. If you're trying to do this over the Internet then either teamviewer or logmein (which is also free). These will work locally as well but will be slowed down by the speed of your web connection.

Just a thought. If you do use mstsc or vnc you may need to open the relevant ports on your computers firewall. Like I said contact me if you need more help. I'm on my iPhone at the moment so didn't want to do too much typing!

This is an excellent piece of software, I have used it loads. you can also transfer files using this software

I have settled on Teamviewer for my setup... like the way it handles Remote multiple monitor setups, multiple simultaneous connection, file transfer etc...

I was using RealVNC until a couple of weeks ago, tried Teamviewer and I've settled on that now.
