Eyepiece help

Recommended Posts

Hi all, below are 2 pics of my Meade 4504 114mm Reflector.

The EP's supplied with it were 0.965" . Now my question is can i fit 1.25'' EP's? Can i buy an adapter that i can put on to fit 1.25'" EP's ? The diameter of the opening is 2"

If i did this, would it make a big improvement on the image?

The EP's supplied were Modified Achromatic H25mm, H12.5mm and SR4mm

Hi Gra, here's an adaptor to allow 1.25" eyepieces to be used with a 0.96" focuser

ScopeTeknix ScopeTeknix 0.965" to 1.25" eyepiece adaptor

You will probably get vignetting with a low power eyepiece however.

A better bet, if you are a DIY person, would be to graft a 1.25" or 2"

eyepiece holder to the focuser, to allow unrestricted use of any eyepiece.

Better eyepieces can transform a telescope.

Best regards, Ed.

Hi NGC 1502, do you think the adapter LukeSkywatcher quoted will do the trick?

I think you will be right about the one you found.

Hi Luke, yes my EP's are 0.965" (just short of 1")

I will see if anone else agrees with the first adapter you reccomended.

When i do i will also purchase some new 1.25" EP's and i will then be looking for advise on the best EP's for my scope.

Just my opinion but if it is able to take a 2" eyepiece, it would seem better to get a 2" to 1.25" adaptor and to use 1.25" eyepieces.

These are the standard size, and you can get inexpensive ones for around £20-25 that will be better then the 0.965's that you have. Then offer the 0.965's as free to good home.

You are going to have to go to 1.25" eyepieces sooner or later, probably sooner, so I cannot see the point of getting there via 0.965" adaptors.

Hi Gra. In the first pic you posted, it looks like the focuser has a screw on fitting

to take the 0.96" eyepieces you have. In the second pic, it looks like you have

unscrewed that part to measure the size.

If indeed the focuser is a 2", then use 2" eyepieces directly, or get a standard

2" to 1.25" adaptor.

But looking carefully at those pics, it doesn't look like that, in which case you

could use the adaptor in the link I posted (with probable vignetting at low power)

or find a way to fit a standard eyepiece holder to the focuser, instead of the

original.

HTH, Ed.
