Hi everyone, another question that might seem a bit daft but....what is the difference between a HEQ mount and a EQ mount ? . Cheers.

Nothing really. The HEQ5 mounts are a (H)eavy duty version of the EQ5 but in reality the HEQ5 is a scaled down version of the EQ6.

I beieve the Skywatcher range of equatorial mounts goes (smallest to largest):

EQ1, EQ2, EQ3-2, EQ5, HEQ5 and EQ6. There is an EQ7 in the wings which has a huge capacity !.

Don't know what happened to the EQ4 or why EQ3-2 I'm afraid. As you can guess the load bearing capacity and price increases with the size and weight.

Or is that the EQ8 now? I think they renamed it, or are releasing the bigger version first with the EQ7 following on later. Anyway, i think it's the EQ8 they are showing at Astrofest, not the EQ7. All very confusing.

Perhaps they will settle on the EQ8-7.5 just to keep it simple
