Crescent Moon Mosaic, 01 Nov

The crescent moon was shining this morning, as luck had it the clear sky lasted just long enough for me to image it.

0610-0617 UT. WO FLT 110, 2x Powermate, W29 deep red filter, DMK41 camera. 7 frame mosaic. This is a 24% resize, the full size image is available here (select "High Res Image" from the zoom menu) (2431 x 3352 pixels, 499 KB JPEG file)

Moon's age 24.48 days, illumination 30.7%. Diameter 32.98'. Colongitude 205.6 degrees. Libration in latitude +06 deg 11 min, libration in longitude -02 deg 20 min. Altitude 37.1 deg.

Transparency good. Seeing poor with significant continuous boiling. Temperature +01C, wind S force 3.

Was there much, if any, sharpening required of the raw frames?

Not much at all. I actually used the same wavelet settings I use for my solar CaK whole disk shots. There is also a very gentle unsharp mask applied after assembling the mosaic.

The trick is getting the focus right....
