Camera settings help please

hi all

going to take my dslr and hook it up to my friends scope tonight to try and get some pictures.

was just wondering where to start with setting ie shutter speed, etc

i know its most likely to be like all photography as in trial and error but was wondering if anyone had some starting points.

iso 400 - 800 and anything from 1 to 10 minutes. Turn off all the auto functions and the noise reduction in camera and take say 10 darks (same exposure but with a lens/body cap on the camera ). From there tweak to suit and get addicted

Make sure your properly focused else you'll get all excited and then come crashing down when you find out your nights work has been in vain!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (NOT THAT WE'VE DONE THAT!!)

If you can, enable the shutter lock option to stop vibrations. I know Canon's usually have this option in the menu somewhere, but I don't know about other makes. Also, use the auto timer, set to about 10 seconds, to give it time to settle.
