Recording Software

I'm sure this question has been asked many times, but as a newboy there a lots of recording software packages out there, some free, some to buy and I would be interested in any feed back from users. I fancy something I can record observations on but that may have other uses as I progress. Any thoughts ?

Stellarium does have a plug in which allows you to make observation noates and track your sessions....

Its free software and does a lot more.........

Perhaps just a spreadsheet either Excel or the Open Office variant.

If you need to buy Excel you might be better off hunting for an old Pocket PC on eBay. It come with pocket Excel and pocket word, fits your pocket and there are a few good bits of software for thw WM2003 etc OS. I have a Dell X30
