Lining the walls....

So, about to start a project to board the interior of the obsy, so I can put some more shelves and storage space in...

I plan on using thin ply as the board, but should I be thinkingh about putting some sort of insulation in the gap? And if so, what would you suggest?

Hi Mate

Why do you want to insulate it??? I would say it’s far better to keep it as close to ambient as possible, otherwise you could end up with a lot of thermal or moisture issues.

Well, I don't know - hence the question!

I'm sure I don't but better to ask than put the boarding up and then someone say "why didn't you....."

On a serious note, mine is lined as you know with 3mm Ply, I would go for something a bit thicker to avoid it bending too much.

My walls are way smaller and will have more of a frame than yours, so I think the 3mm will be OK.

I'd line and insulate the warm room if it has one but NOT the area where the scope is, as said you want this at ambient.

Don't insulate the observatory part - reasons as above. May be worth lining at least part of the observatory with something that you can easily stick pins into - useful for charts etc. (Can't do that in mine - its metal!!)

If its a dry area i.e. no damp, why not use old newspaper screwed up and stuffed in to the gap? Free, well almost, very enviro friendy and a very good performer when compared to the price. I've done that with my shed and its alot warmer in there now.
