Canon 40D, NIkon 300mm at F4, 32x4 min exp.

I have difficulties in color balance with this object, I see versions in deep red to a touch of purple to pink ones ... I tried to land somewhere in the middle ...

This is an excellent image, what a great field. Were you using a light pollution filter?

Yes I was, though I probably could have gone without as LP in that region of the south france that high in the sky is not really an issue. But where I live, near Antwerp in Belgium it is a must, so just to be sure I leave it clipped in.
