New scope ordered

I managed to find the one and only specialist telescope shop here in Cyprus (that I know of) so I finally took the plunge and ordered my scope.

I went for the SW Explorer 200p with dual axis motors, just going to take 3-4 weeks to get here from his supplier in Greece.

Going to have to read up on collimating, polar alighnment setting up the scope etc in preparation for its arrival, coupled with the 169 page revision for my OU course starting in October it should be a busy few weeks.

Its a nice scope Geno I hope you enjoy it Astro Baby appears to have done the definitive article on collimation for beginners. Looking forward to a first light report under cyprus skies.

Looks like Astro Baby has a good guide on polar alignment as well.

Is there another way to polar align i.e by knowing where polaris is supposed to be, such as from Stellarium for example as it looks like polaris is below the roof of my house where the scope will be situated for the time being.

If youcant see polaris you can use a compass but dont forget to allow for magnetic declination in your area and use google earth to give you the latitude to set for the mount if youre lucky and accurate in your calculations that will give you near enough polar alignmenti am sure there are other ways of polar aligning without being able to see polaris. oh yes something called drift aligning but i dont know how to do that somebody here will know

So jealous, here in blighty we don't get much clear skies! ;-(, Great scope, will be great under your clear skies and lot of places with little light polution.

Yes, just the one supplier (that I found) in the capital Nicosia. Delivery to Cyprus for a scope is extortionate, quoted 270 GBP for the SW 200p by Fedex. Not bad when the scope only costs 100 pound more.
