Eyepiece's which to keep and which not to

Recommended Posts

I have these

Celestron Eyepieces

2x Barlow (basic one from the set)

X-Cel 5mm : 4mm

40mm E-Lux

25mm E-Lux

all these are from the Set:

32mm Plossl

15mm Plossl

9mm Plossl

6mm Plossl

And now I have also got with my new scope:

Meade

2x Telenegative Amplifier (barlow i belive)

Super Plossol 40mm

Ultrawide Angle 6.7mm

Series 3000 16mm Plossl

MA25mm

Which would you keep?

What's your new scope?

So far as the 4SE and the C6 are concerned, the Barlows and the EPs shorter than 8mm are a waste of shelf space. The basic Celestron barlow is pretty useless anyway.

Keep whichever of the 40mms you happen to like best. Ditch the MA 25mm.

Here are my suggestions:

Celestron Eyepieces

2x Barlow (basic one from the set) - ditch

X-Cel 5mm : 4mm - keep but won't get much use !

40mm E-Lux - ditch - 32mm plossl shows the same amount of sky

25mm E-Lux - keep

all these are from the Set:

32mm Plossl - keep

15mm Plossl - ditch - Meade 3000 16 is better

9mm Plossl - keep to fill a gap

6mm Plossl - ditch -- duplicated and improved on by Meade UWA

And now I have also got with my new scope:

Meade

2x Telenegative Amplifier (barlow i belive) - keep cause it's good but probably wont use it much

Super Plossol 40mm - ditch - shows no more sky than 32mm plossl

Ultrawide Angle 6.7mm - a keeper !

Series 3000 16mm Plossl - a real gem !

MA25mm - ditch

There you go !

If it was me I would ditch these:

2x Barlow

X-Cel 5mm : 4mm

40mm E-Lux

25mm E-Lux

15mm Plossl

6mm Plossl

Super Plossol 40mm

MA25mm

2x Telenegative Amplifier

Keep these:

32mm Plossl

Series 3000 16mm Plossl

9mm Plossl

Ultrawide Angle 6.7mm

keep the 2x telenegative over the celestron barlow.

32mm Plossl is a keeper, along with the 3000 series 16.

Keep the 6.7 as a high power ep when conditions are top notch

The rest i would sell on and buy something nice around 10mm and 20-25mm.

Hi, If you do any "public outreach" events ( my local club does several each year ) then it's worth keeping a couple of eyepieces for that, they get all sorts of gunk & mascara etc on 'em !! Saves you lots of cleaning of your "best" eyepieces !! Ed.

That's a very good point. I keep back a couple of old plossls for that reason.
