Ash Cloud Question

Hey all

Does anyone know whether that pesky ash cloud will have any effect in grubbing up our telescope optics. I've tried searching the net but can only find information regarding how the icelandic press think we're idiots for mispronouncing their volcanoes name

I'm hoping to get out with my scope tomorow (if bbc's weather predictions are to be trusted) and am just a little concerned that I'll scuzz up my mirrors in the process and whether seeing will be affected???

I havent heard anyone report problems either back when it was bad or even now.

I got a few ash spots on my scope at Kelling - the car had a thin layer over it too - but there wasn't enough to grub it up or affect the views through the scope - it was covered up most of the time.

During the whole "Ashgate" problem there was only one night when i observed the moon and it was a horrible dirty brown colour. The night before it was brilliantly white.

i spent a weekend in wales at a reasonably dark site a week ago only to find that visibility was far worse than normal. the moon looked ok but generally the sky was dim and fuzzy
