Celestron 9.25 on a HEQ5pro????

Recommended Posts

I see on the Iain King website he's recommending the HEQ5pro as a good mount for the 9.25"...

Has anyone got experience?

The quoted weight of the C9.25 is 20lbs ( 9kg) and I'll add another 1.5Kg with the spectroscope....

I've got the HEQ5pro and the NEQ6pro... if the HEQ5 will do the job then I'll dump the NEQ6.....

It ought to be okay,it'll be on the cusp I should think-my cape weighs in at 8Kg plus sundries on top too take it to approx' 11Kg I reckon and the HEQ5 seems to cope admirably with it-just added an extra 5Kg weight to the supplied two C/weights (PS a couple of quid from tesco's bar weight :D )

Strongly reccomend you keep the EQ6. The HEQ5 will be right on the limit, vibration will be a real nuisance unless you have an absolute dead calm & use a motor focuser.

I have to say that I would err on the side of the EQ6 here. I use a 10 inch Meade on an EQ6 and I'd call that 'OK with very little room to spare.' Also there is tracking accuracy. I don't know what exposure lengths you will be going for but I feel it starts to get to be hard work on the EQs after a metre or so focal length. Far from impossible but not just plug and play.

I use my C9.25 on CG-5gt and it is fine provided you leave the legs of the tripod at the minimum height. A lot less vibration that way.

My C9.25/EQ6 combo is rock solid. The C9.25 on my EQ5/CG5 is at the limit. On the HEQ5 it would probably be ok for visual but not photo IMHO. On the plus side it's a lot lighter than a hernia inducing EQ6.
