Eyepiece's won't work, Bad collimation?

Recommended Posts

I've recently purchased two multi-coated Plossl eyepieces (1.25")

but none of them will work? I can't see anything

Except this weird, small white blob in the center..

Focusing does nothing.

The eyepieces that came with my Scope work fine.

What do you think the problem is?

All I can think of is bad collimation.

If it was collimation (very unlikely) it would affect any eyepieces that you try and use with the scope, not just some of them. Even with poor collimation images can be seen and bought to focus so it must be something else.

Hi bravo

your scope is

Focal Length: 1000 mm

Max Useful Magnification: x 100 so you should be seeing somthing

have you tried it in day light ?

if it was collimation your other eyepiece would not work start off with the one that works then change eyepieces and re-focus

Maybe you don't have enough travel in the focuser to bring them to focus?

Extend the focuser to the max. Then try to loosen them and slowly bring them out of the focuser and see if there's a position where you can reach focus.

Thanks for all the help guys, really appreciate It ;)

I figured out the problem, and now I feel really stupid!! XD :)

The reason the eyepieces weren't working was because

my eye was too close to the eyepiece..

I have to be a few inches away to be able to see through the EP.

if I move closer, the image distorts.

I so used to putting my eye straight to the eyepiece.

A 26mm plossl generally has an eye relief (the distance your eye needs to be from the top lens of the eyepiece) of around 20mm.

PS: In newtonian scopes the image is always upside down.

My favourite EP is my Celestron 32mm Plossel. The ONLY way i can see ANYTHING through it is to observe from an inch away from actually resting my eye on the EP.

If i rest my eye on the EP........................I SEE NOTHING.
