If you could pick one book for a beginner, what would it be?

I want one that will explain physics, or at least just talk about it. I can't choose one out off all the ones that have been suggested.

I'm going to re-recommend the Ferris book. Really excellent, with lots about cosmology and astronomy, but not difficult to read at all.

And to break, I just looked on-line at all the book stores around me, and none of them have it. My parents told me I could get two books so I might just get that and one other one that I saw a few days ago. Can't remember the title to save my life.
