Two sketches of M42 and the Trapezium.

I sketched these on the 6.3.2010. One is via the 16 Uwan the other the 7 Uwan.

Note the E & F stars in the second one.

Excellent sketches. M42 never ceases to amaze me. I'm yet to attempt a sketch of it in the 16". Probably one I'll go for next autumn / winter now.

I couldn't believe how easy they were to see. The reason must be either great seeing or the videocam collimation I did, or a touch of both.

Great sketches Mick - do you do them in black and white and then make a negative of them?

I sketch them at the eyepiece with a H2 pencil for the stars and a HB for the nebula or galaxy. I then redo the next day in PS using a selection of brushes and erasers to achieve what I saw at the eyepiece.
