Meade 16" LX200 Classic

Hello SGLers

I am putting feelers out for anyone who may want to acquire a 16" f/10 Meade LX200.

It is currently housed in the University of Glasgow Observatory.

It has very recently been used to take some guided narrowband images.

The optics are not too bad, and the RA tracking is pretty decent. There is a problem in the declination axis, causing an occaissonal 14 pixel jump during tracking.

The scope would come with the fork mount, focal reducers etc....basically everything but the tripod as we have always had it pier mounted. (we may even have the tripod)

With some upgrading this scope could be used for hi res imaging, with guiding. This is also a good scope for visual use, especially good for planetary viewing.

If anyone is interested, I can provide further information.

But I would also like to know how much such a scope is actually worth on the market?!

Thanks for any advice or queries.

Paul

HehHeh!, I was hoping you were going on to say, "Free to anyone willing to remove it" Paul.

Difficult to price I think, how old is it?

Anyone interested would obviously need to have their own Obs. That ain't no grab and go.

Ron.:)

You can try asking 65% if the current retail price and if nobody bites go down to 50%. It's obviously a pretty specialised bit of kit so you may have to advertise for a while before anyone bites.

I have two 16" LX200 SCT's. I purchased an as new OTA from the USA some years ago for 7K quickly followed by a s/h full factory LX200 on a Gigawedge for 5K so prices are very variable. Both give excellent images but the size means that they need to be permanently mounted which somewhat limits the market.
