Excellent Astro society night

I spent last night at the Rosse observatory where I am a member .

I would recommend joining a society as an invaluable aid to a novice whenever possible.

From home even through my new scope I struggle to see anything due to LP.

From the Observatory set away from major street lighting etc I saw more naked eye than I do at home through binoculars.

The main benefit of course is the advice and guidance from experienced members.

In the space of 2 hours I observed more objects than in the last 6 months from home.

I don't begrudge anyone who can afford top gear as I am very happy with my Explorer 150p

But how I envy anyone with regular access to dark sky!

Starting with Mars there were clear equatorial and ice cap details.

The Beehive cluster was a wonderful first sighting.

My first proper view of the Orion nebula was something not easily forgotten.

Then on to reacquaint myself with Andromeda which was bigger than I've ever seen at home.

And finally across to the Double Cluster and Cassiopeia, was that a wisp of cloud rolling in or a hint of Milky way?

Yes an excellent Astro Society night :)
