10mm + barlow x2, good enough to see saturns rings and moons?

Recommended Posts

With my 5" scope plus a 10mm and 2x barlow, Saturn is still fairly small, but I can clearly see the moons, the rings are hard to get a good view at the moment as it is not on full show, I just about see banding on the surface but its hard because saturn is so small.

A 3x Barlow would be a better choice for saturn.

Yep that should do it in fact you will be able to make out the rings with the 10mm on it's own but the barlow will make the planet appear bigger in the eyepiece. I highly recommend First Light Optics as a place to buy from - there is a link to their web site at the top of the page. Do feel free to phone and have a chat as well - very helpful folk are Steve & James :)

PS: Depending on the focal length of your scope, a 3x barlow might provide too much power.
