Software for collimation?

Recommended Posts

MetaGuide is the best one I've found, and it's free as well ! You just need a webcam.

"MetaGuide is a web-cam based tool for precise collimation of the in-focus diffraction pattern of a star. MetaGuide also autoguides and has several novel features that allow optimal guiding of mid-range mounts under typical seeing conditions. MetaGuide can provide insight into both the optics of your telescope, and the tracking behavior of your mount."

Thanks for your replies guys. MetaGuide sounds fantastic. Read the manual. Downloaded and had a dry run. Works like a treat on my DFK.

But unfortunately as Steve said, it did not recognise Starlight Express for my hyperstar. Would have been fantastic if it did. Anyone know of a hack? Surely it should be a matter of adapting the software to drivers.

Btw, I can use my webcam on hyperstar if I get the adapter. But most likely I will ruin collimation by the time I remove the webcam adpter and fit the SX adapter. So no use :-(.

Anyway, plan to try CCD inspector with astrozap today. 30 days it is for now.
