Bushnell 7x50 old type.

A colleague at work has just given me these binos as his wife found them too heavy for her to use birding.

I’ve looked up Bushnell site and there’s no history on them. They are very sharp optics, but being marine binos they have a range finder on one prism. Is this a separate part or is it fixed onto the prism?, I’d like to remove it as it interferes with viewing, I’m not a sailor!

Are there any J-B or J-E numbers stamped on the arms at the objective end (usually), which would tell a little about who made them?

This is the only other markings on them, Bushnell not the manufacturer then?

and yes, those screws need replacing.

Nope, made in Japan, the JB 133 indicates it was made by Kamakura, there's various info elsewhere (the cloudy place, bird forum etc). Looks like a very worn JTTI sticker (the oval sticker)

Bushnell and many others imported own branded stuff to sell on, as did the likes of Charles Frank here.

I had a pair of Charles frank binos, turned them into eyepieces!

Took a deep breath and removed the eyepiece and rubber cover, then removed seven screws, finally removed the lens with the range finder markings and reassembled…phew!

Lovely binos, nice crisp images, I love free!
