So I'm after making a larger solar filter 

So if anyone has some solar film fir sale 

40cm x 40 m square 

I'd be interested in hearing from you

Baader film is available in a 1000 x 500 mm roll ... https://www.widescreen-centre.co.uk/baader-astrosolar-nd50-safety-film-1x05-m.html

But unless you are blessed with near perfect seeing living atop the Alps or similar you will always be defeated and frustrated trying to use a 40cm aperture ... 😉

You want to make a cover for the scope from thick card and cut a circle that will fit inside one of the quadrants between the spider veins. Cover the circle with solar film and that is more than enough for your 14" dobsonian.

I've made a 1 quarter sun mask 

But for the life of me I can't see how that

Works

Though I've not tried it yet.....lol

I've a small reflecting telescope with a small sun filter in the middle and it seems to work fine 

So maybe I just need a little faith in what I've got

Will keep you posted
