hello everyone,

i am making an upgrade to an equatorial mount from my current star tracker.Im getting the skywatcher HEQ5 and it requires a power source. Im trying to keep costs down when looking at a power source for the mount. i have Milwaukee M18 batteries and can get this adapter. will this be good or do i need to look at something else?

That's a good idea, but it's not a complete solution.

Your mount requires 12V to 15V DC.

The USB-C provides 45W at presumably 5V, they don't specify.

So you might need a 5V to 12V-15V DC Converter.

The 120V AC out could power your laptop.

Would this provide the minimum 2 amps required by the mount ?

Or power a suitable 12v psu.

No need to invent unconventional solutions.  Many people use mains power to +12v regulated power packs.  Or car engine starters which deliver +12v.  Or dedicated astro power tanks, the LiFePo rather than lead-acid varieties being increasingly favoured.

45W at "presumably 5V" = 9A.

At 12V that converts to roughly 3.75A, not counting conversion losses.

But a dedicated astro power tank at roughly the same price makes better sense.
