The BBC forecasts tend to ignore high cloud, cirrostratus or even altostratus overcast is called "clear". Go to the Met Office site, the BBC forecasts are derived from the same data anyway. High clouds show up beautifully on the infra red satellite images, and the animations show which way they're going.

You should suggest this to the Met Office as a formal description of certain type of weather in the UK ie to be used about 95% of the time.

Well being a bit of a cynic ( no I hear !), I don't hold out much hope BUT even if it's clear< I'll be up the stream without paddles if this blasted wind doesn't relent !! 2x days now !
