Hi all, bought this telescope on eBay for £20. Had a v quick session earlier and the moon was amazing. Any advice on a good eyepiece for planets and some deep space objects? If I enjoy I will be upgrading but just getting into it first.

As long as you don’t wear glasses when viewing these are good eyepieces….

Would suggest the 5mm for the planets to give x140.

To calculate the magnification an eyepiece gives you divide the telescopes focal length (700mm in your scope) by the eyepiece focal length (5mm for the above eyepiece).

For deepsky perhaps the 12mm giving x58 ?

Thanks so much for the response.

Different Eyepieces have different eye relief, this is the distance you need to place your eye from the lens to get a good view.

I wear glasses when observing so buy long eye relief eyepieces - typically around 20mm

I think the BST have around 16mm eye relief which is OK for non spectacle wearers.

The 5mm is superb on planets - I’ve got myself one after recommendations from FLO

I have a few BST StarGuiders and think that they are great for the money.

I’ve also heard others mention that they aren’t great for people who observe with glasses. However, I wear glasses, as does my daughter and we both find them perfectly fine - no issues here at all.
