Movement of stars

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I'm new to the forum and have always been fascinated with the heavens going back to school days.

My question is this, when we analyze the light coming from Star A & Star B in the attached sketch, we find that they are both Red-Shifted.  The question is, in the simplest form, which direction are these stars moving in relationship to earth?

I want to make it quite clear this is not a trick question.

Best Rgds,

Dave R

If both are red-shifted then as Andrew said both are moving away from Earth. The respective red shift ratio would give an indication of their recessional velocities.
