Interested in solar

Recommended Posts

Thinking that observing time can be increased, I'm interested to try solar observation. At this stage, I don't want to run to the expense of a dedicated solar scope, but would like to achieve worthwhile and interesting images. Can someone recommened any of the various filters that are available? I have a 72mm refractor, and a 4" refractor. Safety is paramount as children will be observing too. Appreciate any comments and advice.

Read that Pulsar Optics do solar filters for some scopes.

One type is the mylar film, the other is I think coatings on glass. The pictures they have show them as "yellowish" in colour.

Cannot recall the price of the mylar ones but the glass ones are £58

I do not have one and neither have I seen them but a person I work with has one on a Meade ETX-90 and says it works fine.

Will point out that Pulsar, ScopesnSkies are the same and people have posted of problems with ScopesnSkies.
