Saturn and Jupiter with dslr canera

Recommended Posts

Well,  I'm something of a novice in planetary photography so I would say that you would get an image but I'm not sure it would be a good one.

I'm using a telescope with a focal length 3 times longer than your lens, a dedicated planetary camera and a Barlow of 2.25x magnification and the resulting image is just about large enough for post processing.

For a typical dslr at 4.3um pixels, a 500mm lens will give an image scale of 1.8"/pixel. At the moment Jupiter has an apparent diameter of 49" so will be 27 pixels across. Saturn at an apparent diameter of 18" will be 10 pixels, and including the rings it will be 23 pixels across. 🙂
