Rainy Day Astronomy- First attempt

Inspired by a video of Mary McIntyre sketching a crater, I decided to have a go. I have no artistic talent but I was quite pleased with my first go.

I think that's really good. I've not tried sketching any craters but if I did and they came out like that then I'd be pretty chuffed.

Mary McIntyre is brilliant.  I used her videos to do sketches of some my astrophotos.

There is a really good Rasc (royal astronomical society of Canada) video on lunar sketching you should check out.

That's a cracking sketch though.  Was that done at the eyepiece or from a photo?  I've not been brave enough to attempt it at the eyepiece.

Mine was done from a photo (as per the book next to it). It hadn’t occurred to me to practice using photos until I watched one of Mary’s videos. I will try a few from photos before I move to the eyepiece.

That’s a really great sketch. I think it’s a really good idea to practice from photos - gives us something to do while waiting for the clouds to part too!
