Old M42 using the X suite

In 2012 I used a Tak FSQ106 and a Starlight Xpress M26 OSC camera to capture M42, M43.  A little over 10 hours using 15 minute subs along with an IDAS light pollution filter.  I remember being pleased with it but looking back now I find it a bit garish and over sharpened.

I felt that the data was good so, in the absence of decent clear night I thought I would revisit it.  So this was using Russ Croman's 3 latest X tools, StarXterminator, BlurXterminator and NoiseXterminator, along with some photoshop tweaks.

Much nicer. The change in 'look' is very similar to the changes I get on these return visits. What a luxury to process nebulosity without trying to maintain the stars. Your dust is full of subtleties. Great stuff.

BTW, Monique has just said 'Hi Martin' after asking me who I was writing to!

Yes, an outstanding image Martin and I am amazed what you now can do to old data! Thanks Russell! It almost feels like cheating but it is as @ollypenrice says just the relief of working on nebulosity without worrying about the stars. And everyone are doing it so it is just how processing will be done from here on.
