Hi all,

I decided to take a look at Jupiter tonight and noticed that the GRS was in sight, so I made a quick capture and processing:

2023-01-06-1926_4-DeRot_JupGMR_lapl7_ap977_Drizzle15_conv-RX_FW-gimp.png.f9b7d9beccb19fb160c2941c8908d9cf.png

I captured 120 seconds with Shutter=4.353ms and Gain=375 (62%), de-rotated, stacked 15% and drizzle 1.5X.

The gear:

  • Celestron C8 XLT
  • Sky-Watcher HEQ5
  • Baader Q-Barlow 2.25x
  • ZWO ASI224MC

The software:

  • CDC
  • EQMOD
  • Firecapture
  • Autostakkert
  • Registax
  • Fitswork
  • The gimp

Thanks for looking,

NV

Nice capture. Why did you derotate  just 120s? Is there much benefit over no derotation? I thought AS!3 could compensate for short videos like this.

Hi @Kon. Honestly, because I had the time for doing it and hoped it would help sharpening the final image. Subjetively I think it did, at least a little...

A very nice Jupiter. I haven’t imaged it for a couple of months, as its been all about Mars since November, but I might try a late season look in the coming weeks.

Good idea @geoflewis. I think you'll find it quite rewarding after so much struggling with little Mars..
