Crayford Focuser Needs Pulled Out

Recommended Posts

Not sure how to fix this but the focuser on my SW 300 Dob moves smoothly enough but when it is fully in it won’t move out unless I pull the tube out slightly. I can’t immediately see an adjustment to fix this. Thinking it might be missing a washer or something? If anyone has experienced and fixed this issue I’d be grateful for their advice.

Thanks

Steve

Not enough friction for some reason.

I'm assuming that you have tried tightening or loosening the fittings?

Mine is a bit slippy at the moment, I've been meaning to take it apart and clean it.

Maybe it just needs a bit of an overhaul?

In the meantime, try not to move it all the way in! :D

I’ll give that a go thanks

Not with mine it doesn’t. If you are taking about the single silver coloured thumb screw, then when tightened is locks the focuser. I keep mine totally unscrewed.

I solved the same issue in my 130PDS playing with these 3 screws (I have no locking screw since I use a EAF):

To do so, I put the payload inwards (vertically I mean) and adjusted the bolts until the EAF was able to move the train upwards against gravity.
