Greenkat Deluxe 10x50 Extra Wide Angle

Recommended Posts

I bought these off eBay a while back and had almost forgotten I had them until our recent move. They are 10x50 extra wide angle (8 degree fov) and are in pretty decent shape, although they have a dent in one of the objective rings and some coating degradation on the other objective. Neither seems to affect the views at all, and the collimation is good. It did mean I got them for a reasonable price though.

I had a brief session with them last night, and am looking forward to giving them more use under a decent dark sky; last night was clear but with very poor transparency. Stars seem well corrected across the view and there is no noticeable vignetting. Will report back more after the next time out!

Are they Swift clones by any chance? Look remarkably like the Audubon series......

I really don’t know Barry. They do look similar I agree. I’ll do some digging on Green Kat

Really curious if the 8 deg claim really holds up. Usually these bins max out at 6.5 deg.

Perhaps not Michael. I’ll check them out when I get the chance, should be tonight. I have another pair of Chinon 7x35s which claim 11 degrees but they are more like 10, and there is plenty of astigmatism in the outer half of the view. These are much sharper towards the edge.

There are some notable greenkat models out there, these may be one of them… I don’t take too much note of I might be tempted into binocular collecting… which I mustn’t do!

Peter

I thought you were already a lost cause in terms of collecting wide angle binoculars Peter? 😉

I checked these out last night on a few widely spaced pairs, and reckon they are somewhere above 7.2 degrees, possibly as high as 7.5, so not too bad vs spec. These guys fitted in with a smidge to spare.

I think these are some of the better ones Peter. I saw a similar pair go for over £100, but I got these for £20, I think because of the dent and coating damage but they work perfectly.
