Managed 24 minutes through the 102ed tonight before the cloud came rolling in. The moon was washing teh contrast out a bit as well.

This is meant as a test of the 1000d to see what it can do with regard to noise etc so there are no darks or flats subtracted. I havent composited shorter exposures on it yet but I shall try that later, but heres 24 minutes at ISO800 guided.

I am well chuffed with this camera and mod.

Thanks Phil :(

Having woken from a few hours ugly sleep for what should have been (by now) a night under clear skies I am greeted by cloud :( and an image from a modded 1000D to cheer me up :)

Can't wait to see what these modded 1000D's are going to do under darker skies

Billy....

It's interesting to comapre it with other M42's and it stands up very well the joys of credit crunch astronomy... if you find problems wth the sensor icing...(oops sorry wrong thread) :)

Cheers guys,

Glad I could cheer you up Peter :( It certainly cheered me up.

For just £350 ish (with Canon Cashback) and a bit of fiddling with internals you can get a really versatile astro camera.

I paid £800 for my 1st 300D unmodded about 5 years ago and the price for modding was close to a couple of hundred with postage faffing etc. Just shows the price of technology does come down.

Phil
