Newbie question: what are these for?

Recommended Posts

As per thread title, what's the purpose of these fitting points, circled in the shot below? I'm guessing the pair can be used to attach a handle but it leaves me puzzled about the right-hand one and the plastic wheel. No doubt I'll be smacking my head and saying "duh, of course!" when someone enlightens me. The same seems to found on various pictures of new scopes so I assume they are OEM fitment.

The one with the knurled plastic knob is standard thread for attaching a camera...

...or take that away and attach a second dovetail bar (like the one on the other side) to attach other things to (like a finder/guide scope...)

No end of things you could buy to fit on there  – assuming they were in stock and could be delivered. ;)

Ok, so I wasn't far off then. Just had a feeling it might be something more mysterious that I hadn't thought of! I did think the one with the plasic knob might be for a camera but I also figured a long-lensed SLR isn't going to sit on that happily at any sensible elevation below "zenith"?

Edit: I forgot to say thanks for the quick replies.
