Earthing/grounding Synscan Control Box

Hi all, I upgraded my Vixen GPDX with the Synscan EQ5 GOTO setup.

One problem !!! Its on a pedestal, so.....

Where do I place the control box to ensure it is earthed/grounded ?

The clip on holder for the box itself is designed to attach to the stainless steel legs of a tripod.

Does it absolutely need to be grounded?

Any help is much appreciated.

Regards

Mark

Not sure that it does need grounding as I've run mine with the box sat in the accessory tray before now and had no issues. Others may have more experience with the requirement and be able to advise better but I'm not convinced that the metal tag is really to ground the unit but simply a sprung tab to retain it.

I don't see why it would be an earth connection, either for safety or EMC compliance (afterall you don't need to drive a stake into the ground and connect the tripod to it!) I've  not dismantled the control box to see what's inside but I suspect it may just act as a thermal path for the motor driver electronics.
