Nuisance Light Flag (NLF)

There’s a pub down the road from where i observe and very often someone, probably an uber, parks up for ages outside with his lights on full blast- pointed right at me! Other times street lights etc annoy if the orientation of the scope aligns. So i made this- hopefully it will do the trick.

Cheapo knockoff Loc-Line jointed cooling fluid hose from ebay, a bit of bent aluminium sheet, and a bit of pvc sheet sprayed black. Bolted together and attached to ota with velcro, it’s an articulated nuisance light blocking flag.

I’ll probably replace the pvc with thin alu sheet at some point but it needs to be light and i didn’t have anything else.

First night out with it and it’s doing exactly what i hoped- normally i have to cup my hand around eye/ep junction but that gets pretty tiresome.

Not the best evening for Mars but 🤞 for more clear patches- gotta make the most of it!

I’ve seen me resort to a long hoodie to block out side light but that often just makes you look like an even more suspicious character after dark. 🕵️‍♂️

Yes a hood would have been another option but that’d really freak out the dog walkers. Plus i’d be less likely to detect approaching muggers- though if they’re smart they could still sneak up on me in the shadow of this thing

well I guess if you wore one of those long hoods and had a scythe propped next to you they might steer well clear Mark especially with witching night coming up 😉
