Attaching DSLR to Telescope

Hello.

I have a CPC 1100 telescope and a Canon EOS 400D that i'm trying to attach for the purposes of deep sky imaging. However for the life of me I haven't been able to attach it, despite buying literally every possible adapter and component. Does anyone know the necessary parts for attaching it on and how to do it? You would have my unending gratitude.

Hi

I don't have your telescope but when I use a camera I like the ease of using a T ring connected to a T mount. The T ring goes onto the camera (whether the lens was) then attach T mount to T ring and insert into telescope focuser (without diagonal).. you may need an extension tube because the diagonal is removed.

The T mount would need to be the size for your focuser I think it is 1.25.

Some members like direct camera attachment.

What bits did you buy already?

We may be able to help get what you have already working with out buying anything.

I have the T-ring which connects to the camera fine, as well as the 2" prime focus adapter (which im guessing is the same thing as a t mount?). It's 2" so that might be where im going wrong then.

If the size of the nose on your adapter is bigger then the size of your eyepiece noses, then your telescope is setup for 1.25 and not set up for 2 inch.

I'll get a 1.25 inch focus adapter then. would i need to change the t-ring as well?

Hi Tharsus55,

You need an  Celestron SCT T-Adapter and a Canon T-Ring or equivalents. You will not need spacers or extentions. If you don't already have it a Focal Reducer/Field Flattener  would be useful.

As you already have a 2" adapter, you might consider buying a 2" nosepiece, to avoid vignetting and for future proofing.
